About Us
Akhil Bhartiya Apang Kalyankari Bahuuddeshiya Sanstha Nagpur“ABAKBS” is a not-for-profit, non-commercial, and non-political voluntary organization situated in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Dedicated to the welfare of the disabled, especially those who are mentally challenged. Established in 1999, the NGO is managed by a team of committed professionals interested in the welfare of the “Intellectually disabled”.
The NGO operates a residential care center for boys/men and girls/women with intellectual disabilities. We started with 4 students in 1999, and have rehabilitated 20 persons with their families upon their improvement up to now, and at present, there are 50 residential mentally challenged students. Girls and boys are accommodated separately with a common dining facility. Persons with mental retardation (intellectually disabled) are trained in the basics of self-help and in trades such as
Candle making, Flower making, File making, Stitching, and in their daily activities. They are introduced to concepts such as time, colour, dressing, personal hygiene, eating, and so on. Exercise, speech therapy, and physiotherapy are provided according to needs. Excursions and picnics for the whole group provide opportunities to develop social behavior skills and learn to interact with the outside world. We take in mentally challenged persons, not mentally ill persons(we do not take in Schizophrenics, Autistic persons, and Patients with depressions, and so on).
Our Mission
“ABAKBS” wants to create a home for “intellectually disabled” children/adults where their community can see them relocated, assuring parents and caregivers that their loved ones will live a happy life in a safe environment. Also to empower persons with intellectual disabilities to access educational, therapeutic, vocational employment, leisure, social activities sports, and cultural activities with full participation.
Our Vision
Our vision is to stand by those persons with disabilities who are an integral part of society, participating and contributing in the community and living life to the fullest with equitable access to opportunities and services. ABAKBS is a charitable nonprofit organization that provides education, training, and rehabilitation at no cost to persons with disabilities.
Our goal
Expanding to help the underprivileged, vulnerable children/adults and the inclusion of people with different types of disabilities to participate in their development process through participatory gender balanced approaches for ensuring their rights and their entitlements. We will always try our best to make those mentally unbalanced and abnormal people work for the children and give them a healthy life.
